Computer Science Lesson Plan
Class: 6th to 8th, Lesson 4.2 : PROPERTIES OF FILES AND FOLDERS

Purpose: Students should learn the properties of folders, files and be able to traverse between folders and use ‘Find’ to search for a folder or file.

No. of Classes

Depending upon the class strength and number of computers (Two classes for 20 students with five computers).

Materials Required

Computer.

Prior knowledge

Students should know about folders, files and the difference between them.

Exercises

Exercise:1



1. Create a leave letter by using a text document and save that leave letter in the given location (Location1) and move that file to another location (Location2).



Location1: E (Drive) → 6th (Folder) → leave letter (Folder)→ marriage leave.odt.

Location2: F (Drive) → 7th (Folder) → leave letter (Folder)→ marriage leave.odt.

2. Find the folder named ‘Kanini’ in your Computer and find the size, type, location, and created date of this folder.


Teacher's Instruction
  1. Teachers should ensure that the specified directories are available in their computers. If F: drive is not available, another existing drive, example, D drive can be used.
  2. Ensure that the students use Tabs instead of spaces to indent the lines.
  3. If the specified folder is not available in that location, students should know how to create the folder.
  4. Teachers should teach the Students the different ways of renaming a file like, the F2 button, right click on the file name → click ‘Rename’.
  5. Teachers should teach all the methods to create a folder (Shortcut key- ctrl+shift+N, right click → ‘New folder’, and any other method).
  6. Teachers should also teach all the different ways of doing a search - Window search, Cortana, Search option in taskbar.
  7. Teachers can allow Students to move the file from one location to another in any way (Save as, cut and paste, copy and paste).
